Finding the Correct Portable Motorcycle
Storage Unit
When you are purchasing your motorcycle don't forget it is
going to need protection from the elements, purchasing a
portable motorcycle storage system is a cost
effect way to accomplish this. When you invest in a motorcycle
the last thing you want is for it to be ruined by sitting out
in the elements. Heat, sun, snow or rain can ruin your bike
much more quickly than a bike that is properly
protected.
How Does Portable Motorcycle Storage
Work?
There are many manufactures that make motorcycle storage
that is portable; however, they all basically work the same.
The concept works like this, first you will put down the anchor
plate, and this keeps the shelter from blowing away and adds
stability to the structure. Then you park the bike on the
anchoring plate and then pull the shelter over the bike. When
the shelter is in place it looks very similar to a tent
specifically designed for a motorcycle.
Not all Storage Units Are the Same
When comparing storage for your motorcycle there are some
key things to look for. One of the main things to find out is
if the material or plastic the unit is made out of is water
proof. It won't do you any good if your bike still gets soak n'
wet when it rains. The other thing to look for is whether the
anchoring plate has a lip on it or if it is flat. Having a lip
can come in handy as it will keep water from forming puddles
inside the unit.
The sun is one of the most damaging elements that your bike
comes in contact with. It can cause the coloring to fade or it
can completely ruin any leather on the bike. Making sure that
the material you will store your motorcycle under will protect
it from the sun's UV rays is very important. You also need to
make sure that the material is both mildew and mold
resistance.
Before choosing your portable storage unit make sure that it
is the correct size. Many of them say they are one size fits
all but measure your motorcycle at both the longest part of the
bike and the widest. This should include windshields and any
sissy bars. Then double check those dimensions against the
product you are looking for. If pricing is your concern you
should know that you can find these units starting right around
$100.
The ability to lock the storage unit may be another thing
you are interested in. There are many manufactures that either
include a locking device or sell them separately. Many of these
units can be used either indoors or outdoors and many will give
you extra anchors for outside storage. Another thing to look
for is how portable is it in reality. This means does it fold
up so that it is easy to carry along with you while you are
traveling? Having truly portable motorcycle
storage is a great way to protect your investment and
keep it looking brand new for years to come.
